Trying
to describe a Renaissance Faire to someone who's never been to one is
sort of like trying to describe a rainbow to a blind person. Renaissance
and Medieval Faires seem to be a much bigger phenomenon in the United
States than anywhere else, and there are as many types of Faires as
there are Faires. Some are strict re-creations and others are more fantasy
types. What they all have in common is a certain suspension of our humdrum,
work-a-day world. If you're willing to suspend belief for a day or so...
you too can travel to a romantic past.
My
home Faire is the Bay Area Renaissance Faire here in Largo, Florida.
1998 was the 19th annual celebration. It's held here on a beautiful
wooded lot, and this site is their permanent location. With 125 booths
and 6 stages there's always plenty to do and see. Sadly, they don't
have a web page, and I haven't taken any pictures there. I've been to
other Faires here in Florida, and also in Texas. If no Largo site appears,
perhaps I'll have some pics from the 1999 season to post here.
The
Georgia Renaissance
Festival
is held in the Spring and the Fall of every year. I attended in 1998
and have a bunch of pics that... uhh... aren't scanned in yet. Soon
though!
Directorie
of Renaissance Faires with Faires listed by dates, and links to
their homepages whenever possible. It includes Faires in Europe as well
as the States.
The
SCRIBE list of events has informaton for vendors as well as patrons,
including on and off-site facilities.
The
Scarborough Faire is held in Texas, not far from the Dallas/Ft.
Worth area. This
picture of me was taken there two years ago.
The
International Wenches Guild is
a fine organization to which I now proudly belong.
The
Ratpuck Page The only renaissance sport you *really* need to know.
Emrys
Fleet is the only Ratcatcher you'll ever need
Broon
Mmmm.... talk
about
your men in tights!
The Minstrels of Mayhem From love songs to drinking songs to humor,
they do it all.
Kalani's
Renaissance Faire page contains an impressive collection of links and
*many* pictures of Faires in California.
The
Lundegaard Armory contains much of interest for those with an affinity
for fine weapons.
